Winter in Woking

I’ve discovered my photographic forté: local rag reportage. We had a bit of snow in the UK this week. I took advantage of the first snowfall on Monday, took a walk into town, and a few photos along the way. My local paper spotted them on Flickr and asked if they could publish one or two in this week’s edition. Which was nice. So today I am splashed all over page 5 of the Woking Informer!
We don’t cope well with snow in the UK. Everything’s been shut this week. Office workers have been skiving off for a ’snow day’ or several, kids of all ages have been building snowmen, and everything is bright, white and quiet. It’s a bit like Survivors, but without the deadly flu pandemic. And no one has looted Waitrose yet.
I’m sure other countries don’t suffer this affliction. I mean, do the Swiss never leave the house? Are Scandinavian schools permanently shut? Makes little difference to my schedule. I’m holed up in Reed Towers, managing the Grid, waiting for the thaw.

Ah the Woking Informer. Check out the photostory on local would-be models. Derek is described as a ‘her’ — ha ha

Hilarious! Sadly, I don’t fancy Derek’s chances as the face of Woking Fashion Week… My favourite is Barack Obama’s stepmum visits Woking bingo hall. Nice to see we’re at the centre of world events.
